House style guidelines

Learning and Teaching Scotland's house style aims to remove unnecessary jargon and terminology, and limit capitalisation and hyphenation to ensure that web pages are as easy to read as possible.

In this section you will find information on conventions that should be observed when creating text for web pages:

• Text conventions, for example for abbreviations, dates and times, money, numbers and bibliographies
• Specialist terms - terms used in Scottish education
• Words and phrases: preferred spelling, hyphenation and capitalisation of specific words and phrases
• Punctuation
• Formatting text
• Using inclusive language.
