LTS follows standards and guidelines for the audio production process. In short, audio produced for delivery online should use MPEG audio Layer-3 (mp3) as the default playback format with a bit rate of 128 in stereo for music files. Other (lesser) bit rates and mono may be considered for different purposes after discussion with LTS.
The title attribute for audio files should offer more detailed information about the content of the audio file in a short descriptive sentence. (The title attribute for the file appears when a user hovers their mouse over the link to the audio file.)
Title attributes should:
No full stop is needed at the end of a title attribute.
You should provide transcripts for all audio files. These transcripts should be written and formatted in such a way that a user reading the transcript will gain the same information as if they listened to the audio.
It may sometimes be appropriate for audio files to be accompanied by captioning, for example, language resources where the user will benefit from reading the words and hearing them spoken simultaneously.
We always offer an alternative format to comply with our accessibility standards. You can see an example of this on our MFLE podcast pages.
