Web statistics is all about looking at how our visitors interact with our websites. We want to know a range of information about our visitors from how long they stay to what they look for and also when and why they leave.
To give us this information we use web analytics software called Sitestat. Everyone in LTS can access this with a user name and password - if you are an LTS employee and would like to access Sitestat, please contact Gerry Queen.
The information we get from Sitestat can tell us what our website visitors are looking for and then we can adapt our structure, layout and presentation to suit the majority of our visitors.
Sitestat produces website statistics reports that can be used to improve the returns from our development and marketing investments.
The reports can also be used as evidence that the LTS Online Service is performing against other educational websites and that we are providing a valuable information service.
In addition we have to ensure that the LTS Online Service is meeting its Key Performance Indicators (a measurable objective made up of a direction, benchmark, target and time frame) and the web statistics will measure a number of things including the growth in website traffic over time.
Please note: as of 11 April 2008, Learning and Teaching Scotland is registered with ABCe and supports industry agreed standards for website traffic measurement.
ABCe is the industry owned, tri-partite, not-for-profit organisation that works with and for content providers, media owners, advertisers and media buyers to help them better understand and gain confidence in the website statistical data they use.
