
Linda Clarke, class teacher at St Margaret's RC Primary School, describes how the project has taken her out of her comfort zone and caused her to to examine and improve upon her practice. She says lessons are bound to be more interesting if teachers themselves are challenged and not just left to do the repetitive classes year in, year out.

Researchers from the University of Strathclyde were commissioned by the Scottish Government to review pilot projects aimed at addressing the low achievement in education by looked after children. In this video lead researcher Dr Graham Connelly talks about the key findings of the research, and highlights some of the interventions that appeared to make the most difference.

She discusses that by allowing children to have ownership of their work and progress they are developing the life-skills that to take with them into later life such as motivation, engagement and setting themselves high standards.

St Margaret's RC Primary have introduced more group work into their teaching. The teachers and pupils have found that this improves the motivation within the class to complete their work and achieve their end goal.
