Creative fashion course gives girls confidence

Hawick High School's creative fashion course allows the pupils to design and make their own clothes and jewellery, using recycled materials from the local textile mills and even a fibre-optic factory.

At the end of the year their clothes are featured in local shop windows and they wear them in their own catwalk fashion show and in portraits taken by a local professional photographer.

The entire project draws on the materials and expertise available locally, allowing the pupils to experience different aspects of the fashion and business worlds, as well as developing the confidence to make their ideas become reality and promoting their creations though the catwalk and photography sessions.
