The Royal Meteorological Society is a learned body dedicated to promoting the subject of meteorology and climate science.
The Society has a very active Education Committee with the strategic aims of supporting the education of children, supporting the education of adults and influencing national curriculum.
We organise international and national events (MetLink International- RainCatch UK) designed to stimulate the interests of children in the most accessible and dynamic of all natural systems- the atmosphere.
It has been said that meteorology is an 'outdoor sport'. It is only through direct experience that we come to appreciate the great beauty and wonder of the natural Earth systems. Yet the vagaries of weather can only really be understood with the knowledge of science, otherwise it is just a jumble of empirical terminology. Meteorology is a perfect vehicle for cross curricular learning combining as it does, the skills of observation, a knowledge of process and the understanding of human consequence.
