Scottish Earth Science Education Forum (SESEF) is a grassroots network of people and institutions that are committed to promoting the teaching of Earth science in Scottish schools. Its membership includes employees within museums, universities and the British Geological Survey and a number of Scottish teachers. SESEF has undertaken a variety of projects with funding from a diverse set of sponsors, managed by a full-time development officer.
SESEF projects include the Scotland-wide delivery of continuing professional development workshops for teachers of 5-14 environmental studies and the development of teacher resources related to landscape and weather. Support for geology teachers, for the class and in the field is also currently available.
As well as the importance of fieldwork in studying geological concepts, SESEF believes that the outdoors is a key teaching resource which is currently underexploited and future projects seek to address this.
