Royal Zoological Society of Scotland

In Line with its charter the R.Z.S.S. appointed its first Education Officer in 1971 and today as part of the Animals, Education and Conservation Department of Edinburgh Zoo it continues to offer a wide range of educational opportunities.

The Education Centre is open throughout the school year and delivers a programme of wildlife and conservation- based topics to classes from nursery – S6, tertiary and adult education and including those from special schools. Each topic is linked to the Scottish Curriculum and as a department we network on a regular basis with L.A advisory services and practising teachers to keep our own topics relevant. A wide variety of informal education can also be accessed in the Park to enhance a school visit.

New opportunities can now be found on our website in citizenship and enterprise areas. A Science Summer School and an Autumn Conference are becoming highlights of the academic year and an Environment Award is now available for secondary schools.
A strong outcomes Programme is now in place and we are also collaborating in The Royal Society Roadshows.
