A river of flowing water

Water is a renewable resource and the basis for all life on earth. In Scotland we have access to fresh water in our homes, in many other parts of the world water is scarce.

Every day each person in Scotland uses on average 140 litres of water for drinking, washing, cleaning the house/car, cooking, flushing the toilet

How does the amount of water we use affect our Ecological Footprint?

  • Energy is used to collect, clean and pump water from the water company to your school.
  • Most of the energy comes from fossil fuels that are not only non-renewable resources but also release carbon dioxide when burnt.
