Cars, buses, trains, bicycles, boat, planes and walking are all ways to transport ourselves and goods from one place to another.  How does the type of transport we use affect our Ecological Footprint?

  • Each type of transport needs a different amount of energy to run and therefore has a different ecological footprint.
  • Energy from fossil fuels is used to power all transport other than bicycles and walking.  Fossil fuels are not only non-renewable resources but also release carbon dioxide when burnt.
  • Most forms of transport take up land space, for example roads, parking spaces, bus-stops, rail tracks, stations, airports and ports.

Follow the navigation buttons at the top of the page to complete this section, to help you to understand the environmental impact of your transport use and how you can reduce your school’s impact.
