In Scotland we have limited land space. Land is used for farming, for towns and cities, and for roads and forests. It is important to ensure there is land for other living things (this is biodiversity).

How does your school building and grounds affect the Ecological Footprint?

  • Schools take up land space.
  • Materials made from natural resources are used to construct buildings.
  • Making materials and constructing buildings uses energy. Fossil fuels that provide the energy are non-renewable resources and can also release carbon dioxide when burnt.

Follow the navigation buttons at the top of the page to complete this section to help you to understand the environmental impact of your school buildings and how you can reduce your school’s impact.
