The Age of Stupid

The Age of Stupid is a 90-minute film about climate change, set in the future. The film premiered around the UK in March 2009 and stars Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devasted world of 2055, looking back at archive footage from 2007 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

The Age of Stupid also deals with a range of climate-related issues, from emerging Indian airlines and anti-wind farm NIMBY-ism ('not in my back yard'), to Hurricane Katrina and rapid climate change in the Alps. It presents an apocalyptic vision with pathos and humour, while calling for us to step up our response to the chaos already happening around the world.

“The very fact that the crisis is taking place within our generation, that it’s happening right now, means that we are tremendously powerful people. So this position of despair and I can’t do anything and there’s no point is completely illogical, it’s exactly the opposite.”

George Monbiot, Journalist and Author.
