Travelling communities

Ensuring inclusion in education for Scotland’s travelling communities must take account of their different cultural identities and lifestyles and their experience of interrupted learning and different forms of exclusion.

There are distinctive and separate groupings of Traveller communities, each with their own histories, cultural traditions and values:

  • Gypsies/Travellers
  • Showmen
  • New Travellers
  • groups of Romani people, each with their own cultural identity, who live in different European countries and are collectively called Roma.
