The Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004 & 2009 provides a framework through which all children and young people, including those with disabilities, should be provided with the support they need to make the most of education. Those with disabilities have additional legal protection provided by equality legislation that is designed to eliminate discrimination and promote equality. Disability is a protected characteristic under the provisions of equality legislation.
