Supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people

Rainbow flag

The wide diversity of learners includes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people. Sexual orientation is a protected characteristic within UK equality legislation which is designed to address issues of discrimination and inequality.

Ensuring all young people are welcome and know they are valued is clearly important. At the same time, recognising, preventing and dealing with homophobia and homophobic bullying remains a continuing issue for all educational establishments.
