Music: Musical skills

Note on the use of music in Sunset Song

We are all actors first and musicians second. To have a singing voice is a conventional part of an actor's armoury; to be an instrumentalist is an added extra. Two of us have sometimes been professional musicians, and we all have pretty good musical skills, but where those skills have been dormant or unpracticed the arrangements have needed to sympathise. In this sort of show, however, we have a portrayal of community some of whom are older, some younger; some taller, some shorter - no apology is needed therefore if some are accomplished musicians, some yet-to-become accomplished musicians.
