Note on the use of music in Sunset Song

'Auld Lang Syne'

The scene ends, of course, with midnight singing of 'Auld Lang Syne' - we get through only a snatch of this but the song has become trammelled with the enforced commercial jolliness of the late 20^th century. Consequently we have used a less familiar tune which has nonetheless been associated with Burns' words for just as long as its more familiar counterpart.
