Introduction
Stage Play
This section provides information about the book Sunset Song and its author, Lewis Grassic Gibbon. Excerpts from the novel and selected scenes from the stage adaptation by Alastair Cording are reproduced, providing links between the two to show how the stage adaptation was derived from the book. Alastair also introduces his work with notes on how the adaptation was made
and gives an analysis of the selected scenes , indicating his aims behind the writing and the choice of material from the novel.
Production
This section provides more information about how the production of Sunset Song was produced for a tour by Prime Productions in spring
2001, which was then revived in autumn 2002. There are five sections:
- Direction
- Director Benjamin Twist gives a director's analysis of the scenes reproduced in the Stage Play section, a rehearsal diary, where he notes the process of casting and rehearsals through to opening night and notes on the main themes and issues relating to the play.
- Design
- Designer Neil Warmington discusses the process of designing the play, provides costume sketches and technical drawings for the set. There are also photographs of the model box and the set as it appears in the production.
- Music
- Musical director Dougal Lee provides notes on how he devised the music for the production.
- Lighting
- Lighting designer George Tarbuck describes the process he went through in lighting the show and provides cue sheets , lighting plans and an analysis of the lighting states for the play.
- Company
- This includes discussions with the actors relating to their methods of work, themes from the play and the position of the play in contemporary Scottish theatre, biographies of the actors, details of Prime Productions, production credits and tour schedule.
