How do I look?

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you happy with the way you look? Do you think your image expresses your personality? Are there some things you'd like to change? If you were a painter, how would you portray yourself?

In this unit you're going to look at a number of pictures in which artists have painted portraits of themselves. Looking at these self-portraits will enable you to:

• compare the way artists from different periods present themselves
• understand how self-portraits can reflect the spirit of the time
• understand how self-portraits can reflect personal experience and ideas.
