Learning styles

Everyone learns differently. This unit looks at some theories of how different people learn, and encourages students to identify their own learning styles in order to become more effective learners.

The unit looks at some common descriptions of learning styles: visual (where learning is done best by seeing), auditory (where the learning comes from listening), and kinaesthetic (learning by doing). Learners explore different learning styles to discover their strengths and weaknesses, and to try different strategies to strengthen weaker areas so that they can learn more effectively in a variety of contexts.

This is a short unit that acts as a first step to further research on learning styles. Students are reminded that while they may have a preferred style, they should work at developing their weaker styles to give themselves a choice of different learning methods.

This unit would works well with the unit on 'Memory skills', which gives more tips for learning in different ways.
