Pictograms are a graphical way of communicating information - they are pictures or symbols with a particular meaning. This unit illustrates some common pictograms - warning signs, information signs, prohibition signs, symbols used in learning materials, icons in computer software. The unit also looks at pictograms used to represent numerical data (children also learn about these in maths).
You could help your child to collect some more examples of pictograms which they can take to school to discuss in class, for example washing symbols, warning symbols on product labels, etc. If you are out and about together you could also ask them about 'picture' signs you might see - road signs, warning signs, etc.
