SQA Star Awards

The SQA Star Award for Skills Competitor of the Year

This award is sponsored by the Scottish Government on behalf of UK Skills and recognises SQA candidates who have developed their vocational qualifications to competitive levels, locally or nationally, and have demonstrated outstanding commitment in one or more of these areas:

  • in the way they value vocational skills
  • in the way they have made use of SQA’s vocational qualifications, to participate in skills competition
  • in making an outstanding contribution to their centre, employer or community 
  • Have demonstrated a personal commitment to personal development by participating in skills competitions.

Guidelines for writing your submission

The judges will be looking for nominated candidates who:

  • have used SQA qualifications to increase their vocational skills and contribute to their personal development 
  • have used and developed their vocational skills in competition
  • Have, through participating in skills competitions, achieved personal or professional benefits over and above the normal expectation of their education and training programme; 
  • Have, through their own experience in skills competitions, raised the profile of skills competitions in Scotland; 
  • Have worked in collaboration with their training provider or employer to prepare personally and professionally to meet the demands of skills competitions. 

This list is not exhaustive – if you have a candidate who deserves SQA recognition, tell us about them!

Winners will receive a trophy.
