Heritage Education Forum

The Heritage Education Forum (HEF) is made up of representatives of national cultural organisations in Scotland. Together they hold, conserve, enable and promote access to our collections, buildings, and historic and natural environments. HEF aims to share information and best practice; establish active partnerships across the heritage sector; ensure more effective use of resources for all learners; and promote the value of and increase access to heritage learning.

Scottish Arts Council

The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) is the lead body for the funding, development and advocacy of the arts in Scotland. One of SAC aims is to place the arts, culture and creativity at the heart of learning.

Visual Arts and Gallery Education Inspiring Learning

On stand LP 2 in the Homecoming Cultural Village engage Scotland will be offering teachers resources and expert advice on how to get the best out of working with the visual arts and artists and visiting art galleries.

Inspiring Art Cards – an exciting new resource – Free to teachers

At the Scottish Learning Festival, engage Scotland will be launching a set of colourful 'Inspiring Art Cards' which can be used as a teaching and learning resource when discussing art in the classroom or on a gallery visit. The cards include a glossary of useful visual vocabulary terms along with suggestions for research, activities and making art – all presented in a colourful, engaging way.

Teachers should come to stand LP 2 in Hall 4 to collect their free set of cards.  

Alongside the cards, a range of publications and information for schools from art galleries across Scotland will be on offer along with expert advice on how to work with artists and art galleries.

engage is the National Association for Gallery Education promoting greater access to, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts in the UK and internationally, through professional development opportunities, including conferences and training events, research projects, grants schemes and the engage Journal.

The Visual Arts and Gallery Education stand at the Scottish Learning Festival is managed by engage Scotland with funding from the National Lottery through the Scottish Arts Council.
