The Scottish Screen Archive is now part of the National Library of Scotland holding Scotland’s Moving Image Collection. The films illustrate ordinary people’s lives, Scotland’s industrial history and the changing patterns of Scottish since the birth of filmmaking in 1896.

With many different films covering a wide range of subjects including family life, working life, industry, war, entertainment, transport, education and sport, the Archive’s collections provide a rich social history of Scottish lives on film.

Our online catalogue provides details of the films we hold and digital clips are available for some titles. Each film has a detailed shot breakdown, which enables you to identify relevant material. Films can be borrowed on videotape for research and classroom use free of charge or purchased from us on video or DVD.
