The Scottish Music Centre is both a public service and a membership organisation, based in the City Halls, Glasgow. The Centre actively promotes our country's new music both at home and worldwide. A key element of the Centre's work is the Education and Outreach Programme.
Our education team is dedicated to bringing music to life using dynamic approaches to tutoring and assisted learning. We are currently running three successful projects.
Young adults have the chance to meet recognised composers as they discuss the process of writing music. Since the first series of extremely well attended sessions we have decided to develop a second series of sessions between September and December 2007.
Aiming to champion composition/song-writing by encouraging students aged 12 and over to share, listen to, enjoy and learn from the work of others. In this fully interactive area of the website, listeners can now comment on each full track and share online reviews of the various compositions. New submissions welcome.
A chance for schoolchildren to visit and find out more about the Scottish Music Centre and have fun learning how to compose their own piece of music using music technology software (currently Garageband). This has achieved great results and encourages children to perform for classmates and teachers.
