There are many ways for teachers and pupils across Scotland to access the national art collection, in person and in the classroom. We offer a vibrant programme of guided visits and practical workshops for children throughout their school career from pre-school to S6.

This autumn we are delighted to be hosting the SQA ‘A’ exhibition which will showcase over 100 of the best artwork submitted for 2007 Standard Grade, Intermediate and Higher Art and Design examinations. Generous sponsorship from SQA has allowed us to offer free guided tours of the National Gallery of Scotland that focus on developing critical responses to art.

Find out how to enter our annual competitions. Children are invited to enter our Art Competition for Schools where the 53 winning works are exhibited at the National Gallery of Scotland and the top three entries in each category win a full-day practical workshop for their class with assistance with transport costs.  Pupils and teachers are also encouraged to enter Inspired? Get Writing! creative writing competition, using the national art collection as inspiration for poetry or prose.

The National Galleries of Scotland offers continuing professional development to teachers at all stages of school education. These include private views of the collection and exhibitions, practical courses, and in-service training.

We look forward to seeing you at our stand in the Cultural village to discuss the exciting possibilities available at the Galleries for you and your pupils.
