Seminar Description

The Schools of Ambition programme is backing ideas from schools that will help them transform the experience of their pupils. Schools of Ambition are taking on new challenges and generating an ethos of ambition and opportunity in the life of the school. Two of the schools involved in the programme, St Ninian's High School, East Dunbartonshire (Wednesday) and Hawick High School, Scottish Borders (Thursday) will share their plans for transformation and reflect on their experiences so far.

Speaker biography

I am presently Depute Headteacher at Hawick High School. I lead our School of Ambition programme. I live and work in the town of Hawick. Hawick is a proud and independent community famous for the knitwear industry and rugby. I am undertaking the Scottish Qualification for Headship and have recently graduated from Columba 1400 Headteachers Leadership Academy (through Schools of Ambition). This summer I graduated from Harvard University's Principals Centre during a summer school on 'The Art of Leadership'. Our pupils are from S3 and S4. They have participated in School of Ambition Programmes such as the Columba 1400 Ambassador Programme, the Images of Britain project, working with Space Unlimited and participation in our Girls of Ambition Working Group.
