A visit to an art gallery involves much more than ‘looking at art’. Through exploration, it can encourage ‘out of the box’ thinking, help form cross-curricular links and develop transferable skills, including literacy.

Speaker biography

Linda McClelland has worked with the National Galleries since the opening of the new Clore education facilities in the Weston Link in 2004.  Prior to this she was a teacher and Head of Art and Design in a number of schools within the secondary sector in N Ireland for twenty five years. She has held many roles in assessment and examining with CCEA and including a one year secondment look at curriculum review.

Marie-Louise Smoor has been the Schools’ Education Officer for the National Galleries since August 2005.  Prior to that, she was the Education and Access Curator responsible for establishing education and public access to the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre.  She has also worked in education in art museums in the United States.
