This programme of free sessions within the Scottish Education Village will highlight examples of innovative practice from various schools, videoconferencing sessions and new resources, and also spotlight areas of Learning and Teaching Scotland’s Online Service.

Wednesday 20 September
10.15		The LTS Online Service – A Treasure Trove to Support your Teaching Come along to a demonstration of inspiring new online resources to keep your teaching sparkling! The LTS team will showcase some gems such as the new cross-curricular themes websites and the interactive materials for early years, primary and secondary practitioners.
10.45		Health Promoting Schools - Learning Community Experience a day in the life of Lochend Learning Community's health promoting school day in partnership with our whole school community.  Innovative and sustainable projects have been developed to enhance health promotion through the breakfast service, curriculum, lunch and play time and after-school provision. The workshop will talk you through these and invite you to meet some of the partners including parents and children who have been involved.
11.15		Active Start – Fun with Physical Activities Clackmannanshire Council officers from the early years sector and sports development have been collaborating for several years; they have been instrumental in designing and delivering physical activities for pre-school children. They will present and demonstrate the Council's Active Start programme. The programme includes a range of adapted resources and material using physical activity to promote key elements of the 3-5 curriculum. A detailed syllabus has been developed for specialists to deliver in the nursery setting and as a coach education package. The interaction between the two services has produced a wealth of ideas which has benefited our children, families and nursery staff.
11.45		Create a Buzz in your Classroom with Bee-Bots Learn how to use a Bee-Bot and see how Bee-Bot activities can enhance learning in many areas of the primary curriculum. Control Technology for pupils aged 3-8 has never been so much fun!
12.15		For Pupils By Pupils, The Mothership. An Interactive Online Radio Environment The Mothership is an online after-school learning community with built-in radio station.
12.45		Making Choices with Mr Fluffy Find out how this fun character is helping children in West Dunbartonshire to make the right choices.
13.15		Interactive Infants – Whiteboards the Whitecraig Way How we have used ActivPrimary 2 software with Promethean Whiteboards to create a stimulating and enjoyable learning environment in our infant classes. Children from our school, along with their teachers, will show you a variety of interactive lessons covering many different aspects of the curriculum. Includes hands-on demo of ActiVotes.
13.45		Air Splaoid! – The Big Adventure! A new interactive online Gaelic taster running through 2007, integrating culture, language, citizenship and fun. Stay tuned!
14.15		Gaelic National Assessments 5–14 5-14 National Assessments in Reading, Writing and Mathematics are about to become available through the 5-14 National Assessment Bank. This presentation will provide more information about downloading and using the Gaelic assessments, and will include a ‘hands-on’ introduction to the bank.
14.45		Creating Accessible and Inclusive Classroom Materials With a bit of imagination, it is possible to create colourful, engaging, interactive and accessible classroom materials using Word, PowerPoint and Excel. From cloze procedures and drop-down word bars to incorporating audio and video into Word as well as accessible PowerPoint presentations and interactive Excel spreadsheets, this session will explore 'hidden' features within MS Office to create inclusive classroom resources.
15.15		Thinking out of the Xbox – Game Making for Learning Steve Beard shows how Shropshire school kids are making games to share their learning.
15.45		Interactive Whiteboard Demonstration for Secondary Robert Jones, maths teacher from North Berwick High School, will share some practical examples of how this versatile technology can be used to support the teaching of Maths. Come along and get some 'hands on' experience!

16.45		Making the News Find out about the free online publishing system for schools hosted by the National Education Network that enables teachers and pupils to share and promote their learning experiences over the web.
17.15		Collaborative Research and Teacher Professionalism This session will outline opportunities for collaborative research with the Schools and Social Capital Network. It follows on from the seminar (J1C) at 13.15 pm on Teacher Professionalism and Social Capital. Participants can identify case studies that are planned in their region of Scotland, and discuss prospects for funding additional applied studies into how social capital can enhance schooling.

10.15		Thinking out of the Xbox – Game Making for Learning Steve Beard shows how Shropshire school kids are making games to share their learning.
10.45		Health Promoting Schools St Paul's Primary School, Glenrothes presents 'The Inedibles'. An innovative approach to health promotion in a Fife primary school, involving the production of a fun ‘Wallace and Gromit style’ animation. This cross-curricular project, which has been led by children, is being used as an enterprise initiative as well as focusing on healthy eating as the theme of the cartoon. A must see!
11.15		Information Literacy Session – Professor Ross Todd Sandwiched between Professor Todd’s conference seminars (D2F & D2I), this session will give delegates an opportunity to discuss with him the role of the library in today’s school.

12.15		Media-based learning with St Mungo’s Synergy Schools Radio Station St Mungo's has implemented an award-winning radio station that incorporates curricular and extra-curricular activities. Using professional equipment, pupils create live broadcasts to be transmitted throughout the school.
