This year’s Scottish Learning Festival was the busiest and liveliest since its launch. The festival expanded throughout the SECC, Armadillo, and Crowne Plaza Hotel on 20 and 21 September to accommodate the scale and atmosphere the 2006 programme demanded.
Originally focusing on ICT in education, the festival has evolved and subsequently diversified over the years to encompass a diverse range of opportunities right across the educational spectrum to excite, inspire and motivate.
The terrific atmosphere at the festival was endorsed by the keynote and spotlight speakers, who were met with enthusiastic educationalists eager to be inspired by experts in their own field.
Complementing the conference programme, the largest educational exhibition in Scotland showcased products and resources to assist those involved in all aspects of education. Delegates in their thousands took advantage of opportunities to discover new products and ideas in action which are supporting education in Scotland today.
At the heart of the exhibition lay the Scottish Education Village, home to LTS, the Scottish Executive Schools Group and for the first time the SQA and HMlE. A combination of workshops and exciting demonstrations by pupils throughout the two days brought the village to the forefront of modern practice in education.
Below are just some comments received from delegates:
‘I have heard lots of positive comments from those who attended this year, both from first-timers and those who had been before.’
‘… the Festival was a triumph - I enjoyed every session I attended and thought there was a marvellous buzz.’
‘I really had a fantastic show - the Scottish Education Village was brilliant, the session presenters were more engaging and entertaining than ever. You just had it perfect this year - well done.’
‘I attended Andy Hargreaves’ keynote address, which I found to be inspirational and for me the highest point in a conference of many highs.'
