Travel

Getting to Glasgow couldn’t be easier.  The following information will help you with your travel plans.

By air

Glasgow International Airport is located just eight miles west of Glasgow City Centre and has direct flights from various UKand international airports. 

From the airport the city centre can be reached by taxi; the journey takes about 20 minutes and costs around £15.  A shuttle bus service operates every 15 minutes from the airport to Buchanan Bus Station and takes around 25 minutes.   The nearest train station is Paisley Gilmour Street; a regular bus service runs between the airport and the train station or taxis are available.   The train to Glasgow Central Station runs regularly and takes approximately 10 minutes.   More information can be found on the Glasgow airport website.

An alternative is to use Prestwick International Airport,  which is located 30 miles south of Glasgow but has excellent transport links to the city centre. Ryanair operates low cost flights from a range of European destinations to Prestwick.  

The airport has its own train station just moments from the arrivals hall. From here trains run every 30 minutes and the journey to Glasgow Central Station takes around 50 minutes. A coach service also runs to Glasgow Buchanan Street Station every hour (every 30 minutes during peak times). By train

Glasgow Central Station is a key hub in the national rail network and is situated in the city centre. London is approximately 6 hours away by train. Glasgow Queen Street Station is another main line station situated in the city centre.  The following train companies travel to Glasgow:

Getting around Glasgow

Visa requirements

Should you wish to attend the Scottish Learning Fesitval 2006 and require a visa to enter Britain, please ensure that you apply for your visa at least 6 week in advance of your trip.  Please note that LT Scotland and Emap will not get involved in any way with visa applications.
