| Seminar Description | There has never been a better time to be teaching geography. The digital revolution has unleashed a whole new range of learning and teaching experiences for the geography classroom. Many teachers, particularly those whose own education predates the digital revolution, still feel challenged by ICT. This seminar, based on the experiences of a classroom practitioner who is rising to this challenge, will explore a variety of ways of developing the use of ICT in geography. It aims to show that you don’t have to be an ICT expert to work with digital media in your classroom. The seminar will include ideas based on digital photos, digital mapping, PowerPoint, virtual fieldwork, the internet, interactive whiteboards and more! |
| Speakers | Val Vannet, Head of Geography, High School of Dundee |
| Speaker biography | Val began her teaching career in a grammar school in Devon before moving back north of the border, where she taught briefly in a number of Dundee schools before being appointed to the Geography department of the newly opened Monifieth High School, where she taught for 21 years, the last six years as Principal Teacher of Geography. In 2000 she moved to the position of Head of Geography at the High School of Dundee. From a position of self-confessed ICT ‘dinosaur’ in 2000, she has risen to the challenge of embedding ICT in her department. |
