| Code | B1D |
| Seminar Date | Wednesday 21 September |
| Start Time | 15:45 |
| Duration | 45 minutes

| Seminar Description | This interactive workshop will: - give a general introduction to human diversity and learning styles (LS)
- introduce personal LSA Profiles of children and why a knowledge of LS is particularly important during the early years of education
- discuss learning needs of underachieving students
- point out the importance of multi-sensory stimulation (V-A-K-T)
- explain the important distinction between kinaesthetic/tactile learning and mobility
- present ideas for improving classroom discipline based on learning styles.
The overall conclusion will be that Learning Style Analysis (LSA) instruments reveal specific learning needs of 'problem' students, already traceable during primary school years, and that certain style combinations in students most often lead to school failure and ultimately to dropping out from formal education. The importance of multi-sensory teaching and learning will be discussed, particularly when preferences are not matched by the expectations and strategies of a traditional school system. |
