Key facts and stats

The Scottish Learning Festival was launched in 2000 and originally focused on ICT in education.  Since then it has evolved and diversified and in 2006 became the all encompassing Scottish Learning Festival.

It is now the pivotal event in the education calendar, inspiring better teaching and learning, and helping to create a confident teaching profession for the 21st century.

  • There were 2281 new visitors to the Scottish Learning Festival in 2007

  • 25% of attendees are from primary schools; 14% of attendees are from secondary schools; and 10% of attendees are from early years establishments

  •  All three education Ministers from the Scottish Government attended the Scottish Learning Festival in 2007.

  • Visitors come from as far afield as Australia, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and USA.

  • More than 500 delegates came from universities and colleges in 2007

  • 89% of surveyed visitors agree that the Scottish Learning Festival makes a valuable contribution to the development of teaching and learning in Scotland

  • Over 250 pupils took part in seminars and demonstrations over the two days in 2007.

  • 71% of those who attended in 2007 say they are likely to make changes to their educational practice.
    These changes include new techniques in the classroom, purchasing new ICT materials, using existing technology in different ways; using new technologies in the classroom; and re-evaluating management and planning practices

  • Around 9 in 10 visitors claim the Scottish Learning Festival is very supportive of CPD, with 76% using the event as part of their continuing CPD

  • According to a study by George Street Research the key reasons for attending the Scottish Learning Festival are: to keep abreast of educational initiatives, hear keynote and spotlight addresses and to see the new and latest products
