Key facts and stats

The Scottish Learning Festival was launched in 2000 and originally focused on ICT in education.  Since then it has evolved and diversified and in 2006 became the all encompassing Scottish Learning Festival.

It is now the pivotal event in the education calendar, inspiring better teaching and learning, and helping to create a confident teaching profession for the 21st century. 

  • In 2009, 7513 people visited over the two days.

  • There were 2905 new visitors to SLF 2009.

  • 1885 attendees are from primary schools, 982 from local authorities and 833 are from secondary schools.

  • SLF 2009 was attended by The Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Fiona Hyslop, MSP and the Minister for Schools and Skills, Keith Brown, MSP.

  • Representatives from every Scottish Local Authority attended in 2009.

  • Visitors came from as far afield as Australia, Germany, Holland, Iceland, Norway, France, Portugal and Spain.

  • Over 250 pupils took part in seminars and demonstrations over the two days in 2009.

  • 98% of respondents felt SLF 2009 allowed to keep them abreast of educational initiatives.
