Seminar Description

Forest Pitch is the only cultural Olympiad project taking place in Scotland. It will culminate in two football matches between amateur players who have recently taken up British citizenship. As an arts project it looks to encourage debate about national identity, citizenship, the natural world, sustainability, participation in sport and is a rich context for learning.

This workshop (Joint Global citizens team/ project artist) is designed to show how an art project can help develop and deliver the key themes of global citizenship in order to enhance learning and teaching primarily within the primary sector but impacting on early years and secondary sectors as well.

The workshop will include the following presentations and exemplification from Education Scotland officers, practitioners and project artist encompassing:

  • What global citizenship is in the context of Curriculum for Excellence

  • Why global citizenship is a vital part of the primary curriculum

  • Cultural awareness

  • Inclusion

  • Whole School approaches

  • Professional Learning Communities

  • Sustainability

  • Art as a vehicle for learning

Speaker biography

I am a development officer at Education Scotland within the Developing Global Citizens team. My responsibilities cover Citizenship and Games Legacy. Through my involvement in Games Legacy I have worked with Craig Coulthard, the artist behind the Forest Pitch project and have helped with the engagement and involvement of schools local to the project.
