This resource was initially a paper based resource, supported by Stirling Park, however it was decided that the case studies should be brought to life by filming one of the scenarios. The film focuses on the trials and tribulations of Wilma, a single mum, and her teenage son and daughter. Changes in family circumstances force the family to confront a difficult financial situation and they have to try to adjust to a new reality. Things which they took for granted now have to be reconsidered and this proves difficult to accept - especially for the teenagers. The paper based resource will tell the 'real life' stories of how different characters got themselves into debt and the actions they took to solve the problem. It also examines the consequences if the character could not get out of debt. Connections will be made to the outcomes from Curriculum for excellence which will be illustrated in the support materials. In particular links will be made to the draft outcomes in • Numeracy • Social Studies • Health and Wellbeing The support materials and a DVD containing the resource will be made available to those attending the seminar. |
