Seminar Description

Bo'ness Academy has formed a very strong partnership with Caledonian Produce (one of Marks and Spencers main food providers).

During the summer term of 2008 all S1 pupils will be working on an enterprising project to design a healthy snack which would appeal to the teenage/young adult market, capable of being sold in a Marks and Spencers store.

An initial design brief was devised by the school and Caledonian Produce along with the Art, Home Economics, Business Education and Personal and Social Education Departments. All S1 pupils (in groups of 4) will then research, design, present, market and make a healthy dish within these four subject areas.

At the end of May, the groups will then have the opportunity to put all of their skills together and “sell” their final product to a team of judges.

The best four teams will then make a final presentation to Marks and Spencers with the winning team having their dish made by Caledonian Produce and sold by Marks and Spencers in their local stores.

Pupils will gain valuable experience in teamwork, how a business is run, health promotion and to see how different departments in a school work together on a common goal
