The Place2Be: Innovation in Addressing the Emotional Barriers to Learning

CodeG2H
Seminar DateThursday 25 September
Start Time13:00
Duration45 minutes
Seminar Description

The new curriculum for excellence emphasises the importance of focusing on children's emotional health and wellbeing.

At its core is the premise that it is possible to remove barriers to learning and lay the foundation for healthy life choices, by addressing children's emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.

The Place2Be is an award winning charity that is committed to supporting troubled and unhappy children in schools.

The organisation is currently working in 10 Edinburgh primary schools, successfully providing emotional support to over 2,000 children and their families.

Following an independent evaluation commissioned by the Scottish Executive, Lothian Health and Edinburgh City Council, The Place2Be is now looking to build on the recommendations to expand its services across Scotland.

The seminar will focus on the work of The Place2Be in Edinburgh, including the unique model which provides teams of trained counsellors to work on-site in schools; offering a range of different services to children, alongside specialist training for staff and a dedicated support service for parents.

The seminar will also demonstrate the positive impact of the work and how an early intervention mental health service can effectively operate in the school environment and positively assist learning.
