| Seminar Description | In this session we will share with you 2 projects that have allowed our young people to take forward skills they have developed in the classroom/clubs and use them in 'real life' situations. - The Big Ship Café – an Internet Café managed by young people for young people. This is a lunchtime cafe open to all pupils. They can enjoy a 'healthy' lunch, watch a DVD or surf the net. The café is organised by a Management Team made up of pupils from the Business Management class. They are responsibility for the day to day running as well as the promotion of the club throughout the school. The Hospitality class, as part of their Intermediate programme plan the menu, cook and serve the food at lunchtime as well as working out the costs and selling prices
- There is also a Fairtrade stall. Last year we received further finance and the Art Department framed and sold work of S1/2 pupils. We also bought a Kiln and we are still working with the Science and Art Department to make glass jewellery for sale. We are moving into a new school this summer and we are unsure if we will have the space to run the same facility but we have developed skills which we hope we will be able to take with us and utilise in some form.
- The Media Group – the pupils in this group range from S2-S5. They have been established for a number of years now and are responsible for raising the profile of the school in the local community. They report on all school events and have developed excellent interviewing and media skills. They have links with the local newspaper and they have given them two 10-page pull out slots and Christmas and Summer.
They have successfully compiled a DVD for P7 pupils to assist with the transition process. This was an interactive DVD and allowed the P7 pupils to see and hear about the work of the SMT and Pastoral Care Staff , gave them a tour of the school and provided clips of the pupils on their visits to the High School. The senior school Music students provided the music for the DVD. They were also given funding from Enterprise and they purchased a high quality printer. This now allows them to provide a printing service for the Primary Cluster eg posters, banners, calendars, handbooks. They can also copy and supply DVD's. They are currently working on a DVD called 'Clyde Regenerated' which has been funded by the BBC to record the closure of Clydebank High School and the move forward into the new '21st Century School'. |
