| Seminar Description | In 2007 LTS in partnership with Save the Children published Participation and Learning, a resource for teachers which examines and gives practical advice on how to develop participative practices in schools and classrooms. Following the publication a group of interested practitioners from across the country were given the opportunity to work with leading thinkers and writers in the field of participation and pupil voice as a stimulus to improving their own practice. The seminar will focus on the work that has been taking place in a range of educational settings. Teachers will talk about their journey using the wide range of resources and research the group has engaged with and highlight the benefits and challenges that they have faced in bringing a more participatory ethos to their schools and classrooms. Presenters will explore how learning communities can work to support and encourage innovative approaches to learning and teaching within the context of the ongoing development of Curriculum for Excellence and talk about how using Glow has enhanced their ability to share and support each other. Key points which will be addressed at the seminar are:- the links between participation and Curriculum for Excellence developing the skills and attitudes to make participatory practices work finding the spaces for discussion and dialogue with teachers and with students investigating the challenges and some responses working in a learning community. |
