Seminar Description

The Scottish Government wants a qualifications system that works for all young people - a framework that fully reflects Curriculum for Excellence and equips our young people for the demands of the Twenty-first Century.  This session explores proposals for change contained in the Scottish Government's "Consultation on the Next Generation of National Qualifications in Scotland" which runs until the end of October.  Proposals include:

  • Introduction of new awards in literacy and numeracy;
  • Introduction of a new general qualification at SCQF levels 4 and 5 which will replace Standard Grade (credit and general) and Intermediate 1 and 2 whilst reflecting their best features;
  • Qualifications at Access, Higher and Advanced Higher levels retained as points of stability with the content of these qualifications updated to reflect the Curriculum for Excellence; and
  • Increased flexibility when taking qualifications - eg opportunities to take qualifications over different timeframes, use a winter examination diet and bypass lower level qualifications.
