Seminar Description

This project provides useful, exemplary 'excellent lesson plan' materials giving teachers choice, with the expectation that they will creatively use, adapt, add to and to personalise for their pupils.

The main focus is on science and technology but drawing fully across the curriculum eg numeracy, literacy, expressive arts, social studies to provide strong learning experiences for learners 3-15. The aim is for depth of learning and the overall quality of the learning experience.

The product is web based with the principal feature being a number of illustrative central themes. Each central theme has a shell of inter-related sub-themes with suggested activity ideas. The ideas are written for three broad, overlapping target groups – pre-school/ lower primary – middle/upper primary - lower secondary. The suggested activity ideas include:

  • activity outlines with details (not pupil materials)
  • national and potential local contacts – educational, industry/commerce,/public sector/voluntary sector
  • websites
  • potential links to numeracy, literacy, healthy and safe living
  • potential links to other curricular areas
  • LOs covered

There are also brief, related reference sections.

The project reflects the principles of Curriculum for Excellence, teacher and pupil choice and enjoyment, progression and differentiation, AiFL, enterprise, applicability to both rural and urban environments and the use of new technology.
