Count us in: A Sense of BelongingMeeting the needs of children and young people newly arrived in ScotlandThe seminar will focus on the key messages of this report by HM Inspectorate of Education, which will be launched on 22 September. The report focuses on the needs of children and families who have arrived in school as a result of international migration. International migrants include refugees, asylum seekers and economic migrants from outwith the United Kingdom. The report comments on what Scottish schools are doing well to support newly-arrived young people and their families. It provides examples of some of the things which school leaders, school staff and professional partners are doing to help newly-arrived children and young people feel welcome, increase in confidence and fulfil their potential. It also indicates areas where schools and education authorities need to improve to meet the differing learning and support needs of all learners. The seminar will provide opportunities for participants to discuss the implications of this report for the work of schools and education authorities. The seminar will be of interest to practitioners and school leaders from pre-school centres and schools, and to local authority officers, including those with responsibilities for English as an additional language services and equality, diversity and inclusion. |
