Seminar Description

In November 2008 a landmark media literacy conference was held at BBC Scotland's new HQ at Glasgow's Pacific Quay, presented by partners Learning and Teaching Scotland, Ofcom, Scottish Screen, Skills Development Scotland and supported by BBC Scotland.

The conference was an opportunity for discussion amongst interested parties to identify joint priorities and future collaborations, and an important outcome was the creation of a media literacy network in Scotland, to provide an ongoing forum to facilitate the development of media literacy by the many parties engaged in this vital educational issue.

This panel session will provide an opportunity to discuss media literacy with Nick Simons (BBC), Ollie Bray (LTS), Claire Mack (Ofcom), Scott Donaldson (Scottish Screen) and George Junor (SDS).

  • What is media literacy?

  • Why is it important?

  • How can Scotland become more media literate?
