The seminar will focus on good practice in social subjects, within the context of a Curriculum for Excellence. Staff from HMIE and LTS, closely associated with Curriculum for Excellence developments, will highlight effective learning, teaching and assessment approaches, drawing on the HMIe Good Practice in Social Subjects DVD. This new resource includes video clips, interviews, keynotes and workshops based on good practice in social subjects identified by HMIe in Scottish Schools.
Curriculum for Excellence encourages high aspirations and ambition for all. At every stage of their lives young people should have the opportunities to be active participants in their learning and have opportunities to develop and demonstrate their creativity. Children and young people should find their learning deep, challenging, engaging and motivating.
The session will draw on examples of good practice identified by HMIe which highlight how some schools are ensuring their young people are having opportunities to develop and engage with Curriculum for Excellence in Social Subjects. Participants can view the resource and discuss how they might use it to improve the quality of learning and teaching in their own establishment.
