The HBOS Museum on the Mound, Edinburgh, offers visiting school children a series of activity sessions based on its historical collections. These sessions complement existing resources for financial education, provide a new perspective on the coins and notes we handle every day, and widen the scope for cross-cutting study. Since the Museum can only facilitate a limited number of school visits, and as some schools are unable to travel to Edinburgh, the Museum has worked closely with SCFE/ LTS to develop this stand alone pack for use in the classroom. The pack is loosely aimed at upper primary schools, but has enormous potential as a transitional tool. Secondary colleagues from different departments can use the pack to explore cross curricular themes with primary colleagues. Whilst these support materials are not prescriptive, it is hoped that they may offer suggestions that teachers and pupils can use and adapt in their usual creative manner for the whole school community. The pack can be used to support a visit to the Museum on the Mound or be used independently. The recent development and subsequent piloting of the resource as the result of a partnership working between the education staff of the Museum's unique resources and Curriculum for Excellence experiences and outcomes in a number of curricular areas. |
