The seminar will focus on national issues arising from the publication of Improving Scottish Education 2 2005-2008, (H M Inspectorate of Education, 2009); and the challenges for leadership and quality improvement in Scottish schools. The seminar will outline national trends arising from the inspection evidence underpinning Improving Scottish Education 2; and identify issues for education authorities, schools and teachers. It will include those aspects of secondary education where high quality has been maintained since the publication of Improving Scottish Education 2002-05. Challenges for secondary schools in preparing young people for life, work and leisure in a rapidly changing world will be discussed. The intrinsic relationship of education to economic and community development will be emphasised, as will the critical importance of partnership between schools and other agencies in ensuring a high quality of education for all young people. Practical approaches to improving literacy and numeracy will be considered. The importance of innovative curriculum leadership and vision will be a key dimension in the context of the Curriculum for Excellence national initiative. The seminar will focus on innovative and creative solutions, based on the recurrent characteristics of good practice identified by HMIE. The workshop will be relevant to policy makers, school leaders and practitioners in the secondary sector. |
