Seminar Description

This seminar will explore the interconnected nature of learning, teaching and assessment and how teachers' professional judgements are essential in determining the progress children and young people are making. They will explore many key messages such as the principles of assessment, standards and expectations, ensuring consistency and validity through moderation, reporting to parents, informing self-evaluation for improvement and monitoring standards over time.

It will provide opportunities to hear from creative and skilled practitioners on how they have developed innovative and relevant learning experiences through planned activities that lead to sustained, motivating learning and high levels of achievement for all children and young people.

Karen Russell, Numeracy Development Officer, Education Scotland

Speaker biography

Karen Russell is an experienced principal teacher of mathematics who is presently on secondment to Education Scotland from Renfrewshire Council as a development officer in numeracy. Karen has led mathematics departments in two schools as well as having worked at local authority level as a Mathematics Adviser and Quality Improvement Officer.
