Young communicators make a pop video

St Angelas Primary School Preparation

Paul Manley teaches a composite P5/P6 class at St Angela’s Primary School. He and his pupils have produced a pop video about the school and the local community as part of a citizenship project. The theme of the video is ‘How to communicate with young people’, and it has won a national competition.

Teacher profile

Mr Manley has been working at St Angela’s Primary School since 1997 and is currently teaching a composite class.

Mr Manley was trained as a New Opportunities Fund (NOF) teacher advisor and an Educational ICT Company (EdICT) skills trainer; he is currently being trained as an ICT mentor. He has been the ICT coordinator at St Angela’s for the past four years and is a member of the Masterclass programme.

Mr Manley keeps up to date with the latest developments in educational ICT by reading publications and attending conferences on a regular basis. He is generally very enthusiastic about the use of ICT and its potential in teaching.


School profile

St Angela’s Primary School is in Glasgow and is was opened in 1977. There are seven primary classes and a nursery class.

There are 270 pupils in the school, approximately 50 of whom have free school lunches and ten of whom are registered as having special educational needs. There are approximately 12 pupils with English as their second language. The average length of teacher service is 15 years.

There are 30 computers in the school, at least one in each classroom, and a dedicated ICT suite. There is an ICT coordinator and this role is part of a class teacher’s remit.

ICT training is available to staff, for example through New Opportunities Fund (NOF) training and Glasgow Education Authority courses, including those run by the Educational ICT Company (EdICT).
