Woodhill Primary: Euro-blogging

Woodhill Primary School is a large primary school with a roll of 378. It is situated in the north of Glasgow. The school currently has 18 members of teaching staff.

There is a clear vision for, and commitment to, embedding international education in the daily life of the school and for integrating ICT in all areas. Clear and specific remits for these areas have been assigned to the DHT, Aileen Spence and PT, Susan Yeoman.

The project

This joint project was developed as a direct result of an Anglo-Franco-Scottish Co-operation Agreement signed by Jack McConnell. The partners in this are: the Scottish Government, Learning and Teaching Scotland, the British Council London and Edinburgh, Institut Francais in Edinburgh and local authorities in East Dunbartonshire, Coventry and Nancy in France.

The project is driven, delivered and disseminated by Woodhill Primary School. Staff involved include teaching staff, support staff, local secondary staff and a French assistant.

Pupils involved

A pilot group of eight P6 and 7 children worked on the project initially and linked with pupils in partner schools in Coventry, Birmingham and Nancy. This session it is proposed to expand this from the initial group of eight children to the rest of the pupils in P6 and 7 (given the restrictions with regard to parental permission and the use of ICT).

Aims

The project aims to develop young people’s language learning in French and English by communicating with native French speakers. It is in the form of a school blog and incorporates the use of podcasting. It is centred around good health and citizenship.
